Coronavirus: Three deaths, 845 new cases (Updated)

The health ministry announced three deaths and 845 cases of Covid-19 on Wednesday.

The deaths concerned two women, aged 78 and 88, and a man aged 62. The 88-year-old woman had received the first dose of the anti-coronavirus vaccine while the others had no vaccination history.

The health ministry no longer announces whether the deceased had underlying health conditions.

She and the man died at Nicosia hospital and the second woman at Limassol hospital.

The death toll now stands at 306, of whom 200 were men and 106 women with an average age of 78.

There are 285 people in hospitals, 75 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 75 patients, 36 are intubated, three are in ICU and 36 in the High Dependency Unit.

A total of 40,811 PCR and rapid antigen tests were carried ou, with 845 cases and a positivity rate of 2.07 per cent.

The total number of positives to date is 64,565.

Of the 40,811 tests, 6,065 were PCR and 34,746 rapid tests.

The majority, 488 of the 845 cases came from rapid testing performed at health ministry testing sites, with 25 more cases found out of 882 rapid tests performed at private labs and pharmacies.

Two hundred and one cases came from 2,967 samples taken through private initiative, while 1,115 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases yielded 113 positives.

Thirty- five positives came from 368 samples processed by hospital labs, while 35 samples taken through GP referrals yielded no positives.

In addition, 1,539 samples were taken at airports with two positives.

From the rapid tests, 151 cases were detected in Nicosia (1.37 per cent positivity rate), 119 in Limassol (1.43 per cent positivity rate), 118 in Larnaca (2.19 per cent positivity rate), 36 in Paphos (1.21 per cent positivity rate and 37 in Famagusta (1.65 per cent positivity rate).
