Nadiya Hussain’s 15-minute Poke Bowl with Salmon

With the weather getting warmer, appetites are gearing up for lighter fare. In this video, food author and chef Nadiya Hussain gives us her take on a Hawaiian poke bowl with salmon.

A traditional poke – pronounced poh-KAY, meaning ‘chunk’ or ‘slice’ in Hawaiian – bowl consists of white rice, topped with raw fish that’s been marinated in sesame oil, soy sauce, green onions and other spices.

Poke bowls began being widely consumed in Hawaii during the late 19th century, when Japanese workers introduced ‘donburi’, a traditional Japanese dish made of raw fish and rice, to the islands. Traditionally, made with ahi tuna, a poke bowl can also feature marinated salmon, cooked shrimp or even tofu for a vegan option.
