Coronavirus: Frayed tempers at Larnaca vaccination centre

There was a delay of about an hour in the vaccination process at the centre at Larnaca port on Friday after some people, citing violation of their personal data, objected to their name and ID number being called out.

According to the Cyprus News Agency, there were protests after officials there started calling people to go in with their names and ID numbers and there were delays in the process, leading to some frayed tempers.

Police were called in to prevent any incidents, police spokesman Christos Andreou told CNA. He said that officers went there after they were notified by the officials at the centre to prevent any incidents and to urge people who gathered in the area, to social distance.

“No serious incident occurred, the police went to the area purely for precautionary purposes,” Christou said.

The vaccination centre opened at 8am and will operate until 17.15pm. Around 2,000 people were expected to get vaccinated there.
