Larnaca municipality on Friday detailed its efforts to keep the area’s rodent issues under control.

A written announcement said that checks and the installation of bait stations are being carried out within and around municipal boundaries by a properly trained and equipped health services crew.

In addition to routine checks, the crew conducts targeted rodent control campaigns in specific problem areas three times a year, to protect public health.

At the moment there are over 2,300 bait stations in the municipality of Larnaca.

The municipality also carries out campaigns to clean up public and private spaces (uninhabited houses, plots, roads, sidewalks, parks, beaches, etc.) throughout the year, the announcement said.

Residents are urged to contribute to its efforts to keep the city clean and free of rodents by cleaning their gardens, land or uninhabited buildings in their property and disposing of rubbish in approved areas.

Those who do not comply face legal action or fines, the announcement added.
