How to identify and treat kennel cough in dogs

Every pet deserves a loving and respectful home: please only consider acquiring a pet if you will be able to take care of its long-term needs. Also, consider choosing your animal companion from a shelter, where there are so many wonderful furry friends who need a forever home.

In this video, veterinarian Dr. Martina Eyre-Brook discusses kennel cough – the common name given to infectious bronchitis in dogs – and what steps to take, in order to heal it.

Just as in chest infections in humans, a number of different bacteria and viruses can cause the illness in canines – normally a combination of both – with an incubation period of between two to 14 days.

While not ordinarily dangerous, in puppies, elderly dogs or canines with existing illnesses, kennel cough can be more serious and develop into pneumonia.
