A 10-year-old boy has been injured by a firecracker in Larnaca, police said on Wednesday.

Police said the incident took place a little after 8pm on Tuesday night, and the boy was taken to Larnaca general hospital where he was given first aid and kept overnight.

The 10-year-old lost a fingertip and injured his index and middle fingers and the palm of his hand.

Police said the boy had been in a schoolyard with three other children his age when they spotted a firecracker and decided to light it.

One of the children threw the firecracker, which hit the boy’s hand and exploded.

The case is being investigated by Aradippou police.
