Police investigate after man dies after brawl (updated)

A 50-year-old Greek national died in Nicosia hospital after a brawl broke out with two other people, with police investigations underway.

The incident occurred along Kalipoleos, a main street in the capital, outside a kiosk at around 10.40 pm on Thursday night – with local media reporting that alcohol had been consumed.

A police spokeswoman said they were alerted to a brawl on Kallipoleos. Officers found a man unconscious on the ground. He was taken by ambulance to the A&E of Nicosia hospital and died a little later.

The cause of death will be determined by a post-mortem, she added.

Investigations are still at an early stage, but police arrested two men aged 41 and 32, after having secured the necessary warrants.
