Coronavirus: 69 new cases, no deaths

Positive cases of the coronavirus dropped to 69 on Wednesday while no deaths from the virus were reported.

The positivity rate was 0.17 per cent out of 41,776 PCR and rapid tests.

Ninety-five people are in hospital with 35 in serious condition. Of these, 22 are intubated.

The new cases concern 20 detected during contact tracing, 13 people who got tested privately, three among samples processed in state hospitals’ labs, and one case among people who got rapid tests in private labs.

Another 32 cases were among the rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. Of these, one case was detected during tests in the education sector. Seven people were found in the Nicosia district with a positivity rate of 0.07 per cent, 14 in Limassol (0.18 per cent), six in Larnaca (0.13 per cent), one in Paphos (0.03 per cent) and three in the Famagusta district (0.11 per cent).

The total number of cases so far is 72,159.

So far 357 deaths from coronavirus were recorded: 238 men and 119 women with average age 78 years.

In the north, 18 new cases were announced out of 7,417 tests, with a positivity rate of 0.24 per cent.
