Why we shouldn’t rush our dogs when we take them on walks

Every pet deserves a loving and respectful home: please only consider acquiring a pet if you will be able to take care of its long-term needs. Also, consider choosing your animal companion from a shelter, where there are so many wonderful furry friends who need a forever home.

Do you find that the moment you set off on a walk, your pooch likes to takes extra time, sniffing out every rock, flower and tree, instead of bounding along vigorously in step – or ahead – of you?

Such lingering is fine when there’s no desired end-time to the outing, but on occasions when you had actually hoped to keep the walk on the brisker side, it can be frustrating to have our dog lost in a sea of scents.

Nevertheless, as this video explains, it’s important to understand the many ways a dog benefits from investigating their environment, so you can see things from their perspective, and hopefully have more patience with your furry companion, the next time the two of you head out to stretch your legs.
