Insight/In light exhibition extended for one more day

insight in light 3 (1)

An exhibition featuring various types of lamp design at Yfantourgio The Workplace since late May will, after popular demand, remain open until Wednesday.

The exhibition is part of the VAHA project Perspective(s): Wide Angle Conversations that has taken place online over the past four months. It was during these discussions that artist Zoe Polycarpou found inspiration for her unique lamp creations. “Though conducting the Perspective(s) lecture series online meant losing the incomparable physical presence of the speakers and audience,” she says, “it was the unexpected gained intimacy of seeing a small window into each speaker’s personal space and the consistent glow of the screen during these conversations that inspired me to make a series of lamps in response. Each lamp was built using Cypriot red clay, has a painted fabric lampshade, and its own distinct shape that correlates to each of the six lectures.

“Like the lectures, the lamps offer multiple perspectives through the 3D nature of the ceramic base, as well as the looped zoetrope-style illustrations painted on the lampshades. Inspired by the calls to action discussed by the speakers, the shades are designed to encourage the viewer to walk fully around the lamp and get involved in the way they experience the evolution of the illustrations which abstractly progress and regress accordingly for each topic to emphasise the dangers of leaving things as they are. The light coming from each lamp designates a space that allows you to enter the realm of each topic and creates an atmosphere of warmth that could hopefully foster continuations of the discussions and fruitful tangents.”
