Foreign Minister expects no change in relations with Israel

Any change of government in Israel or in Cyprus will not affect relations between the two countries because they are based on common objectives and goals to address common challenges, and the way we cooperate with a view to utilise opportunities in the region, Foreign Minister, Nikos Christodoulides said on Thursday.

Asked if the fact that there is going to be a new Prime Minister in Israel will affect the good relations between the two countries, Christodoulides noted that deliberations are still underway in the neighbouring country and that as he has been informed the whole process will be concluded on June 14.

Therefore “we must wait until then. Whatever the choices in any country, they are absolutely respected,” he added.

He went on to say that the relations between Cyprus and Israel have developed to such an extent “that I am sure than any change of government in Israel or in Cyprus will not affect these relations, because they are based on common objectives, common goals, on addressing common challenges and on the way we cooperate, with a view to utilise opportunities in the region.”

“This is our goal not only with Israel but with all states in the region, when there is a change of government either in these countries or in Cyprus, to continue this cooperation,” Christodoulides concluded.
