How one pilot preps baby rescue chimps for their flight to new home

Every pet deserves a loving and respectful home: please only consider acquiring a pet if you will be able to take care of its long-term needs. Also, consider choosing your animal companion from a shelter, where there are so many wonderful furry friends who need a forever home.

Meet Anthony Caere, an anti-poaching pilot helping to support the conservation efforts of Congo’s extraordinary Virunga National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site internationally recognised for its exceptional wildlife and habitats.

The Park is home to over 200 mammals including forest and savanna elephants, hippos, okapis, lions, and mountain gorillas.

Here, we learn that among Caere’s duties is escorting – in other words, flying – baby chimpanzees rescued from traffickers to the Lwiro Primates Rehabilitation Center.

This effectively means he has be a dad to the chimp infant, soothing them, preparing them for flight, and getting them through the potentially stressful journey through the clouds, to their new home.
