Coronavirus: No new deaths as 29 cases recorded (updated)

No new deaths linked to coronavirus were reported on Sunday as 29 new cases were recorded around the island.

This means the total number of Covid deaths so far has reached 363. Of these 241 were men (66 per cent) and 122 women.

A total of 46,276 tests were carried out on Sunday while the total number of people who have had Covid-19 in Cyprus since the start of the pandemic has risen to 72,779.

The positivity rate on Sunday was 0.06 per cent.

Of the day’s tests 5,363 were PCR tests and 40,913 rapid tests.

Among these five were found among 4,052 tests on people who arrived at Larnaca and Paphos airports.

Three were the result of 976 tests carried out on private initiative and 21 among the 40,787 rapid tests taken as part of the government’s screening programme.

Free rapid tests were taken by 15,988 people in Nicosia where seven tested positive (positivity rate of 0.04 per cent), 11,094 people in Limassol with 11 positives (0.10 per cent), 5,649 people in Larnaca with no positives found, 4,496 in Paphos where two people tested positive (0.04 per cent) and 3,529 in Famagusta where one person was found positive(0.03 per cent).

A total of 31 tests were carried out in old people’s homes in Limassol but no-one tested positive.

In addition the following tests were carried out without finding a positive: 14 tests of contacts of known cases, 53 at labs in state hospitals, 104 on the recommendation of doctors, 164 among people from Kato Pyrgos and 126 rapid tests taken at private clinics and in pharmacies.

Meanwhile there were 50 people being treated for the virus in hospital 17 of whom are in a serious condition.

Of the 17 serious patients 12 are intubated, one is in ICU but not on a ventilator and four were in a high dependency unit.
