Man mugged, has car stolen and torched

A mugging victim chased his attacker only to have his car stolen and torched, the Cyprus News Agency reported on Tuesday.

It said that police were investigating a case of robbery, theft of a car and car arson after a complaint lodged by a 30-year-old Nicosia resident.

The man told police that as he sat in his parked car in an open area in Strovolos at around 8.00 pm on Monday, he was approached by an unknown man who punched him, stole his wallet and ran off.

The victim pursued his assailant who assaulted him again and then drove off in the victim’s car.

A little later at around 10.00 pm, police were notified that a car was on fire in an open area in Nicosia. The fire was extinguished by the fire service. The car was found to belong to the victim and the fire was set deliberately.

Nicosia CID are investigating.
