Vinylio Summer Jazz project returns

etko2

It’s not summer in the city of Limassol without the jazzy nights of Vinylio Wine Etc. For the past few years, this Limassol bar has invited established local musicians to share sweet tunes with fans. This June, the fifth volume of the project returns for four days.

“Music gives soul to the universe, wings to the mind, flight to the imagination and life to everything,” says Vinylio. “Join us on a unique journey that live Jazz has to offer, from June 24 to 27 and witness music in all its glory, through its freedom and improvisation, while supporting Cypriot musicians and music.”

Leaving the charming setting of the bar in the old town, the performances will take place at ETKO Winery on Tsiflikoudion Street with two musical ensembles taking the floor each night. Opening the series at 8pm on June 24 is a set by Christos Yerolatsitis on the piano and Ronja Burve on vocals performing a selection of songs from the Great American Songbook. The second act for the evening, from 10pm to 11.45pm is a performance by three well-known musicians on the island – Ermis Michael, Andreas Panteli and Vicky Anastasiou.

The second evening will begin with music by Alice Ayvazian, Alexis Kasinos, Alexandros and Marios Spyrou, again at 8pm. Latin Jazz vibes will take over at 10pm as local band Macumba take the stage comprised of musicians Rodrigo Caceres, George Morfitis, Rodos Panayiotou and Elias Ioannou.

Day three of the Vinylio Summer Jazz Project will start with retro music in French, Greek and English with hints of jazz and swing. Double V duo made up of Vanessa Megalemou and Vasilis Vourvopoulos will show the piano virtuosity of Vasilis and the strong vocal technique of Vanessa. The evening will close with the Christina Argyri Trio as vocalist Argyri will join forces once again with jazz sensations Marios Toumbas and Michalis Messios to perform favourite jazz songs. “Following, what was, a difficult time for all, the jazz trio promises to give you a performance to remember,” says Vinylio.

The project will close on Sunday 27 with four musicians playing Beats’n’Pieces from various musicians and music genres. The act by Eleonora Rousou, Alexis Kasinos, Andreas Rodosthenous and Rodos Panayiotou, is a song collection based on the theme of love around the world. From Gershwin to Hadjidakis, from Dizzy Gillespie to Hermeto Pascoal, this project cruises on Jazz, Afro, Bolero and Latin Brazilian rhythms in English, Spanish and Greek. The quartet consists of musicians with diverse backgrounds who love fusing different music genres together.

Closing off another summery, jazz music series, the Leonid Trio with Leonid Nesterov, Nicolas Tryphonos and Andreas Stephanou will perform their own set of jazz music, bidding farewell to yet another volume of live music nights in Limassol.
