Second arrest in drugs case

×ÅÉÑÏÐÅÄÅÓ

Limassol police on Saturday said they had arrested a second man over the illegal possession of one kilo of cannabis for which a 32-year-old man was detained earlier this week.

The latest arrest concerns the 26-year-old man who had been seen meeting with the older suspect before he was found with about one kilo of cannabis in his car.

According to the police, the 26-year-old, submitted himself to Limassol’s drug squad offices around 3.30pm on Friday.

The drug squad had put the 32-year-old under surveillance following a tip-off that he was dealing drugs. Officers spotted the man, who was in his car, around 7pm on Wednesday, meeting with the 26-year-old man and two other people in a second car in an area in Limassol.

After the meeting, police signalled to him to stop but the suspect instead reversed, hitting the front of a police car and then increased speed and fled the scene.

His vehicle was spotted later with a plastic bag inside containing about a kilo of cannabis.

Another bag was found nearby with 17grammes of cannabis and a scale.

The 32-year-old was arrested in early morning hours on Thursday. He is faced with charges related to illegal drug possession, possession with the intend to deal, drug use and conspiracy to commit a crime.
