Coronavirus: No new deaths, 583 new cases on Saturday (updated)

No deaths from coronavirus were announced on Saturday as the health ministry announced 583 new cases.

These were the result of 48,358 PCR and rapid tests, giving a positivity rate of 1.21 per cent.

Among the tests carried out on Saturday 6,038 were PCR tests while 42,320 were rapid tests.

Of these 61 cases were found among 803 tests carried out on the contacts of known cases.

A further eight were found among 2,551 tests at the airports and 87 were found among 2,316 people who took a test on their own initiative.

A further eight cases were found among152 samples at state hospital labs while 21 were found among 484 tests at private clinics.

Rapid tests at ministry testing sites found 398 cases among 41,836 tests.

In Nicosia 15,994 tests were carried out among which 134 positives were found (a positivity rate of 0.84 per cent). In Limassol 9,884 tests found 106 positives (1.07 per cent), while in Larnaca 50 caseswere found among 6,214 tests (0.80 per cent). In Paphos 4,558 tests were carried out and 29 cases were found (0.64 per cent) while in Famagusta 79 positives were found among 4,860 tests (1.63 per cent).

The total number of cases recorded so far has reached 77,445.

There are 63 people in hospital, of which 21 are said to be in a serious condition.

Of the serious cases, eight are intubated, two are in ICU but not on a ventilator while 11 are in a high dependency unit.
