Comics fan or not, chances are you have probably seen the Japanese Manga graphic novels with their wide-eyed girls and spiky-haired boys. It is a hugely popular art form that was developed in the late 19th century and now, anime has dedicated fans from all around the world. The Art Hub Visual Arts Laboratories is organising a Manga workshop this July all about the ins and outs of the art form.

Held at their space in Nicosia, the one-week-long workshop is a beginner’s guide to the fundamental techniques of Manga illustration. Participants will get to know the basic principles and specifics for drawing Manga characters and how to apply these in the successful creation of their own characters and illustrative stories.

Starting from Monday, July 19 until Friday 23, participants will learn figure drawing, the basic principles of light and shadow, practice the basic expressions of Manga characters and understand the importance of storytelling and framing. Anyone interest can join though organisers say the workshop is best-suited for individuals who are preparing a portfolio for admission to Fine and Applied Arts Universities, students of relevant disciplines seeking specialisation and amateur and professional designers and artists who want to enrich their skills. If interested, hurry up and book before Saturday as places are limited and the world of Manga awaits!
