House of Representatives stops work for five minutes for Famagusta

ΒΟΥΛΗ ΕΚΔΗΛΩΣΗ "ΟΛΟΙ ΕΙΜΑΣΤΕ ΑΜΜΟΧΩΣΤΟΣ"

Under the slogan ‘We are all Famagusta’, members of the House of Representatives held a symbolic event on Monday morning in view of Turkish President Tayyip Erdogan’s illegal visit to the north and to Varosha.

“We all ought to be united against the new threats that Turkey is creating for our country, in contravention of UN resolutions, international laws and European principles and values,” House President Annita Demetriou said officials from the House stood outside for five minutes.

“We, as the House of Representatives, condemn in the strongest possible way and express our dismay against the new provocative actions carried out by the Turkish President.

“The message we want to convey is that we are united for Varosha,” Demetriou concluded.

Erdogan will be in the north to participate in celebrations on July 20 for the 47th anniversary since the invasion of Cyprus, is expected to make announcements on Varosha.

The Famagusta CCCI on Friday called for the five-minute work stoppage “in protest of Erdogan’s actions in the fenced city of Famagusta.”

It called on all workers throughout the island to stand outside their workplaces on Tuesday at 10am for five minutes.
