Eleven residents of a Larnaca care home who tested positive for coronavirus are contacts of a member of the staff there, the health ministry said on Friday.

The clarification follows yesterday’s announcement that 1,046 people had tested positive for coronavirus – 16 of them at care homes in Larnaca and Limassol —  after 89,188 tests.

Of the 11, eight are fully vaccinated, one has received the first dose and two have not been vaccinated. Two residents were taken to hospital, one of whom was admitted for care and the second returned to the facility. The positive cases have been isolated and visited by a doctor. All have mild or no symptoms, the ministry said.

Another person tested positive at a day care centre in Limassol district. The individual completed vaccination a week ago.

Moreover, there was one positive case at a care home in the Nicosia district involving an employee with no vaccination history, as well as an employee at a special school in the Limassol district, again with no vaccination history.

Two people, both contacts of previous cases, tested positive at a children’s home at Larnaca district and have been isolated. They are underage, and do not belong to age groups that can be vaccinated.

The health ministry said three people – all residents – tested positive at a rehabilitation centre in Limassol district. Two were vaccinated and have mild symptoms. The third was not vaccinated, has heavier symptoms but does not require hospitalisation.
