Coronavirus: Police chief ask for report on officers’ refusal to take PCR test

The chief of police is looking into an incident concerning two senior officers who initially refused to undergo a PCR test at Larnaca airport on Tuesday afternoon.

Local media reported that their flight was selected for testing and one the two officers in question threatened the members of staff who were attempting to carry out the PCR tests.

Chief of police Stelios Papatheodorou said on Friday that he has requested a detailed report into the incident, but a formal investigation of the two officers’ behaviour has been ruled out for the time being.

Daily Politis reported that the two officers threatened and pushed members of the staff who were attempting to carry out the PCR tests.

One of the two officers, who were both in civilian clothing, reportedly brandished his police badge and said, “If I want, I can arrest you”.

For their part, the officers claimed that other passengers also reacted against being required to undergo randomised testing.

The officers reportedly said that they had undergone a PCR test the previous day.
