Two Famagusta-based pubs were fined €3,000 for allowing customers to dance, and serving them at the bar, police said on Monday.

“Unfortunately, we still find businesspeople, owners and employees without a SafePass or a face mask,” police spokesman Christos Andreou told the CyBC.

The pubs were fined after 4,010 checks between 6am on Sunday and 6am on Monday for violations of coronavirus measures.

During the checks, two more shops were fined €500 in Paphos for failing to check SafePass of their clients.

Apart from the businesses, 41 people were also fined, mainly for failing to wear a facemask, police said.

Most people, 19, were booked in Limassol after 499 checks, while another ten were fined in Famagusta after 1,102 checks.

Seven more were fined in Larnaca after 650 checks and another three in Paphos after 321 checks.

Just two people were booked in Nicosia after 1,025 checks.

No violations were reported by Morphou officers who conducted 170 checks, nor by the traffic and marine police who carried out 207 and 36 checks respectively.

Police reminded the public that checks may be carried out in private events such as weddings.
