Rumba, jazz and rock live music this weekend

As many of us return home from vacation, musicians too return to the stage after a brief break during the August holidays. Now, that’s not to say that the live music scene was completely at a standstill this month yet it’s common for August to welcome fewer events as the island slows down. Now four live music events are on this weekend in Larnaca and Nicosia.

On Thursday the beloved and lively local trio Rumba Attack will once again bring their Flamenco-Rumba sounds. This time, it’s not a bar or a music venue that will host Constantinos Lyras, Memnon Arestis and Savvas Thoma but a Larnaca coffee shop. Paul’s Coffee Roasters on Armenikis Ekklisias street is not just a café as it has hosted several other music nights at its garden before. Local musicians, DJs and street food evenings have taken place at Paul’s Coffee Roasters and now it is preparing to welcome this lively trio and music lovers.

The bar will open at 7.30pm and live music will begin at 9pm with Rumba Attack performing original compositions as well as covers in their distinctive Latin style, blended with sounds from Middle Eastern origins, Greece and Bossanova.

The old town of Nicosia will fill with jazz melodies on Friday as Alice Ayvazian and Loukas Louka will present a special selection of jazz songs from the 30s, 40s and 50s at Kafeneio to Leoforio. Starting at 8.30pm, Alice on vocals and Loukas on the piano will play some jazz golden standards. During its almost daily live music nights To Leoforio has become a popular spot for performers and music lovers, requiring prior reservations, so be sure to book if you’re in the mood for some jazz.

In a totally different mood, Savino Live returns with two rocking gigs this weekend. On Friday local rock band On Tour will perform at the Larnaca venue at 11pm. Doors will open at 10pm though and reservations should arrive well before the band takes the stage to secure a table. Wrapping up the week is a special kind of performance. On Saturday bands Zivanished and Infected Syren come together for a 10-year anniversary gig featuring various guests for an extra special show.
