Police at Paphos airport arrested four people Friday on suspicion of possession of forged ids after they tried to board a flight to France.

The suspects arrived at the airport at around 4.30pm and tried to board a flight to France using French ids.

Officers suspected the documents were fake and the four were arrested.

Paphos CID is investigating the case while authorities are expected to launch procedures to extradite them.

There has been a surge of arrests recently, mostly of African migrants who try to travel to mainland Europe on fake documents.

It is believed that a network located mainly in the north provide the fake or stolen identification documents.
