Cyprus Symphony Orchestra takes the streets

orch4all street music project faneromeni

The time has come to take music out of concert halls and into the streets! A new project by the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will do exactly that this month so prepare yourself to encounter musicians on every corner. From September 13 to 22 the Street Music Project will pulse around Nicosia!

For 10 days, the musicians of the Orchestra will be injecting life into the city streets. Performing outdoors and at various locations, they will be joined by guest ensembles from the music scene of the island, expanding even more the musical genres that people will hear in the busiest, major pedestrian streets and squares. Classical music, tango, film music, crossover, jazz, rock and other styles are on their way.

Take a stroll in the city, and you may come across them. If you would rather not leave it to chance, follow the project on the Orchestra’s social media channels on Facebook and Instagram to find out there they will be playing.

The Street Music Project is part of a series called Orchestra4All where the orchestra moves from the concert hall into the streets, parks and the heart of the communities of Cyprus with innovative and creative projects.

Within this series are the free Community Outreach Concerts where the Orchestra will take their music to rural municipalities. Between September 15 and 18, musicians of the Cyprus Symphony Orchestra will be touring communities and villages around the island presenting music of various musical genres, including beloved classics, tango music by Astor Piazzolla, songs by Manos Hadjidakis and Mikis Theodorakis, as well as Cypriot traditional melodies.

Conducted by the Cypriot conductor Francis-Nectarios Guy, the Orchestra will first stop at Ypsonas Municipal Theatre on September 15. Then, on Thursday 16 the Polis Chrysochous Cultural Centre will welcome the musicians before they travel to Ayia Napa’s Thalassa Museum on September 17. Finally, the Giorgos Seferis Cultural Centre in Platres will host the Orchestra, bringing melodious sounds to the mountainous peaks of Cyprus.
