Man held for illegal residence

Paphos police have detained a 58-year-old man who has been living in the Republic without the necessary permits.

The man was arrested in Kato Paphos on Wednesday afternoon.

Further examination revealed that he had filed an application as a political refugee which was rejected on May 6. The decision was served on June 1 and since then he has remained illegally in Cyprus.

The 58-year-old was taken into custody, while the immigration service is carrying out procedures for his deportation.
