Coronavirus: No deaths, 129 new cases

Authorities on Thursday announced no new deaths from Covid-19 and 129 new positive cases of coronavirus, as the number of patients in hospitals declined slightly.

The death toll remains at 552.

Seventy-nine people were being treated in hospitals – a net drop of two from the previous day. Of the 79, 34 were said to be in a serious condition; and of these, 14 were intubated, three in ICU but one on a ventilator, and 17 in high-dependency units.

In addition, 11 post-Covid patients were on ventilators.

The health ministry said 66.27 per cent of covid patients did not have a vaccination record.

The 129 positives were tracked from 62,295 tests – of which 5,339 done with PCR – giving an overall positivity rate of 0.21 per cent.

A breakdown of the latest positives: 39 via contact tracing; three from testing at the airports; 20 via private initiative; eight from tests processed by microbiology laboratories at the general hospitals; 52 from tests processed at private clinical labs and pharmacies; and seven from the health ministry’s free testing programme.

Zero positives turned up at care homes in the Nicosia and Limassol districts. Likewise, no positives were detected from 13,554 tests carried out in primary and secondary schools.

The cumulative number of positives detected since the outbreak of the coronavirus in March 2020 comes to 120,272.
