Online event on studying in the UK

The British Council is holding its first online Europe-wide UK education fair next month, with the participation of more than 50 UK universities and thousands of European students.

More than 8,000 students from EU and EEA countries are expected to join the British Council’s online Study UK events.

Undergraduate and postgraduate students will be able to engage with 52 universities from across the United Kingdom – including five of the UK’s top ten and two in the world top 20 university rankings (Guardian’s University Ranking 2021, Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2021), and two thirds of the members of the renowned ‘Russell Group’ of leading research universities.

According to the British Council, this event will give students direct contact with leading UK universities, which they cited as one of their most influential sources for making their study abroad decisions.

“The UK is home to some of the best universities worldwide. Most European students will think “Oxford”, “Cambridge” or “London” when they think “study in the UK” – and yes, London has just been voted again as best city in the world to be a student. But there are so many high-quality courses at more than 400 universities and higher education institutions all across the country,” said the British Council’s Higher Education lead in EU Europe Almut Caspary.

“I’m thrilled that we’re joined by as many as 52 Scottish, Welsh and English universities at our Study UK Europe event. A great opportunity for Europeans to hear from universities, their peers and British Council experts about the depth and breadth of study UK, the intricacies of the application process, support packages, and the new fee and immigration regulations. Students can chat to universities, and experience for themselves how approachable and personable UK universities are – a warm welcome awaits them!” Caspary added.

The platform hosting the events is part of the British Council’s Study UK campaign in Europe, will host two live events – Study UK: The essentials between October 4–8 2021, and Study UK: Meet the universities between February 14–25.

Students will be able to access the platform to browse information about universities and their scholarships between the events, the British council said.

The event is dedicated to students from the EU, with a focus on post-Brexit changes, such as fees, visas and health insurance.

Many of the 52 universities taking part will also be sharing their latest scholarships open to European students.

British Council research from early 2021 shows that students from EU countries value the UK highly for its education quality but find planning their UK studies difficult due to lack of clarity around changes since the UK left the European Union.
