Exhibitions opening this week

Two new art exhibitions are arriving at Nicosia this week. Coming up first at Alpha C.K. Art Gallery is Nikolas Antoniou’s exhibition titled Seasons Change, running from Wednesday to October 16.

Nikolas enters the autumn season with a new series of paintings and with bold design gestures placing the human form at the centre of a transitional state, where its psyche is evident. In Nikolas’ attempt to emotionally sketch the human form, he decides on its disembodiment.

Though this new body of work is titled Seasons Change, Nikolas’ paintings do not stem from a specific idea or theme. He consciously avoids focusing on absolute questions or specific answers and instead creates new paintings that raise unknown questions and invite the viewer into an imaginary dialogue.

Also opening its doors this week and in a seasonal mood is Andreas Karousios’ exhibition presented at Gloria Gallery from Thursday onwards. Titled Pulse-Four Seasons, the exhibition is Andreas’ fourth solo showcase.

The exhibition will present over 70 works measuring 35x50cm with themes inspired by nature, the pulse of life and the four seasons. The works incorporate vibrant bright colours and alternate with soft pastel shades.

The pieces thrive through emotions, memories and psychological moods. Speaking about his work Andreas says: “Painting with coloured pencils and inks on paper pressed on wood. Don’t like the word pressed? Stuck then … so that they never separate. The setting up of the works in the space creates adjacent landscape paintings. The importance of recalling memory lies in the fact that it is likely to be an instantaneous product.” Hosted until the end of the month – October 27 – viewers can explore the artist’s four seasons and inward and outward landscapes and journeys of life.
