Coronavirus: Four businesses fined total of €2,500 for breaking measures

Four businesses were fined for a total of €2,500 for failing to abide by coronavirus measures, police said on Friday.

The businesses concerned a Nicosia-based grill house which received a €500 fine after the manager was found working without a facemask, while a Larnaca hotel was also fined €500 for the same violation.

Paphos officers fined a bar €750 for failing to check its customers for a SafePass or track the number of people inside, while a waiter was serving customers without wearing his mask properly, police said.

A restaurant was also booked for the same amount in the district, after officers saw three employees working without a facemask.

The fines were part of 2,829 nationwide checks carried out from 6am on Thursday to 6am on Friday, during which 20 individuals were also booked, mainly for failing to wear a facemask.

Three people were booked in Nicosia after 1,165 checks, six in Limassol after 206 inspections and five in Larnaca following 589 checks.

In Paphos, two people were fined after 152 checks, four in Famagusta after 462 inspections.

No violations were reported in Morphou after 82 checks.

Traffic, marine and port police also carried out 150 and 23 checks respectively without any bookings.
