Coronavirus: One death, 170 new cases

A woman aged 57 has died from coronavirus while 170 new positives cases were announced on Monday out of 64,004 PCR and rapid tests.

The woman died on October 8 but her death was only announced on Monday. The health ministry no longer reports any underlying health conditions or the vaccination histories of the deceased.

The death toll now stands at 559, of whom 354 were men and 205 women.

There are 58 coronavirus patients in hospitals, 22 of whom are in serious condition. Of the 22 patients, 10 are intubated, one is in ICU and 11 in the High Dependency Unit.

Of all patients, 62.07 per cent are unvaccinated.

A total of 64,004 PCR and rapid antigen tests were carried out today, with a positivity rate of 0.27 per cent.

Of the 64,004 tests, 5,843 were PCR and 58,161 rapid tests.

The majority, 73 of the 170 cases came from 36,892 rapid tests performed at private labs and pharmacies, with 29 more found out of 21,269 samples taken at health ministry testing sites.

Thirty-eight cases came from 1,730 samples taken through private initiative, while 309 samples taken through contacts of already confirmed cases turned up 17 positives.

Six positives came from 229 samples processed by hospital labs, while 329 samples taken through GP referrals yielded one positive.

In addition, 3,246 samples were taken at airports with six positives.

The total number of positives to date is 121,534.

In the north, the ‘health ministry’ announced 67 cases out of 23,133 tests.

To date, the north has reported 20,363 and 83 deaths.
