Police issued fines to 25 individuals and three businesses for failing to observe measures against the spread of the coronavirus.

The force said it had carried out 3,721 checks in the past 24 hours, mainly reporting people who did not wear a protective mask in public areas.

All three establishments booked by officers were in Paphos with the cases now heading to court.

Two were reported after midnight Friday for allowing customers to dance and serving people at the bar while staff were not wearing their masks properly.

The third was booked because management had not assigned staff with specific duties as regards the implementation of health and safety measures.

All three businesses were also booked or operating without all the necessary licences.

By district, officers did not report anyone in Nicosia after 1,271 checks while Limassol had the most offenders, 14, during 589 checks.

It was followed by Paphos with the three businesses and eight individuals, after 297 checks. Police in Larnaca reported two individuals while one was booked in Famagusta after 297 and 350 checks respectively.

Marine and traffic police also carried out checks without reporting anyone.
