Cyprus-China forum concludes youth is the hope for both countries

Youth are the hope of their country and the future of their nation, Chinese ambassador in Nicosia Liu Yantao said at the China-Cyprus Youth Forum, where he also said they are the ones who will pass down China-Cyprus friendship.

The China-Cyprus Youth Forum was held simultaneously in Beijing and Nicosia via live video link.

Through this forum, Liu said, it is hoped that the youth of the two countries will review the path that China and Cyprus have walked on in the past 50 years, explore the common principles and values that China and Cyprus uphold, and contribute wisdom and strength to the sustained and healthy development of the friendly cooperation between the two countries as well as the joint response to the global challenges.

As the world goes through significant changes, dialogue and mutual learning among civilizations should be strengthened, Liu said. With a vision for a better life, the China-Cyprus Youth Forum looked at the future of digital connectivity, the future of health cooperation, and the future of civilizational dialogue.

Education Minister Prodromos Prodromou said Cyprus and China have a long history of exchanges and close cooperation in the fields of culture, education, sports and youth. The government of Cyprus works closely with the Embassy of China in Cyprus to promote the Chinese language and culture in Cyprus, Prodromou said, adding “youth is the hope of a nation”.

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Cyprus and China, it is very important for the youth of the two countries to engage in exchanges, promote mutual understanding, contribute innovative perspectives to the future of digital connectivity, health cooperation, and civilizational dialogue, further advance Cyprus-China relations, and better benefit the peoples of the two countries, he said.

CPAFFC Vice President Jiang Jiang also called on youth to think seriously about their outlook on civilization and the relationship between different civilizations.

During a session called Future in Digital Connectivity, the daily applications and future prospects of 5G technology were discussed as were the important role of the digital economy in the transformation and upgrading of the national economy, the security of 5G technology, the progress of China-Cyprus 5G cooperation, joint efforts to build the digital Silk Road, and how to balance digital life and routine life.
