Coronavirus: One death, 275 new cases (Updated)

One death from coronavirus and 275 new infections were reported on Wednesday out of 51,166 PCR and rapid tests, a positivity rate of 0.54.

The death was of a man, aged 85. The number of deaths is now 577: 369 men and 208 women with average age 76 years.

There are 72 people in hospital with the virus, 24 of whom are in serious condition, including seven who are intubated. In total 65.2 per cent of hospitalised Covid-19 patients are not vaccinated.

Most new cases, 103, concern people who got rapid tests privately, while another 45 were people who got PCR tests privately.

Two cases were among samples collected from the labs of public hospitals, 43 were contacts of confirmed cases, and four were passengers at the Larnaca and Paphos airports.

The remaining 78 cases were among the rapid tests carried out in all districts on behalf of the health ministry. Four of these cases were detected in primary schools, one each in Nicosia, Limassol, Larnaca and Paphos. Eleven cases were found in high schools: six in Paphos, two in Nicosia and three in Limassol. One case was detected during tests in closed structures. In addition, 31 cases were detected in the Nicosia district out of 2,656 tests, 19 in Limassol (938), four in Larnaca (486), seven in Paphos (484), and one in Famagusta (163).

The total number of cases so far is 126,772.
