The remand of two suspects, 26 and 32, arrested in connection with the theft of guns and thousands of bullets from a container in Limassol was renewed for six days on Saturday.

The theft was reported to the police by a 64-year-old licensed importer and exporter of weapons and ammunition who said the container was broken into between October 5 to 19, while it was outside his store in Limassol.

Police said the security mechanism on the door of the container had been forced open.

Culprits stole 200 boxes with 50,000 shotgun cartridges (worth €11,000) and 114,000 9mm rounds worth €17,000.

Some of the stolen bullets, around 15,800, were discovered following a tip-off earlier this month in a metal box that was buried in the Amathounda area.

According to police, two revolvers, one of them loaded, were also found which were not related with the reported theft and authorities were investigating where they came from.

A 26-year-old man, who was being sought for three other serious crimes in Limassol, was arrested as well as another man, aged 32.

The younger suspect was sought on suspicion of firing shots against a house in Limassol in the early morning hours of July 27 this year and against the car of a 26-year-old man on October 1.
