Thousands of bullets found in abandoned Limassol house

Thousands of bullets found in an abandoned house in Limassol on Sunday are thought to be part of the large number stolen from a container last month.

According to Limassol CID, the 9mm bullets were found by members of the Drugs squad investigating the house after a tip off and they were taken away for examination.

The bullets are of the same make as those which were reported stolen from a container outside the premises of a licensed importer-exporter of weapons and ammunition.

The container was broken into between October 5 to 19, and police said the security mechanism on the door of the container had been forced open.

Culprits stole 200 boxes with 50,000 shotgun cartridges (worth €11,000) and 114,000 9mm rounds worth €17,000.

Some of the stolen bullets, around 15,800, were discovered following a tip-off earlier this month in a metal box that was buried in the Amathounda area.

According to police, two revolvers, one of them loaded, were also found which were not related with the reported theft and authorities were investigating where they came from.

A 26-year-old man, who was being sought for three other serious crimes in Limassol, was arrested as well as another man, aged 32. Their remand was renewed on Saturday.
