Coronavirus: Three businesses fined €12,500 for breaking protocols

Three Nicosia-based businesses were fined €12,500 in total for breaches of coronavirus protocols after more than 1,000 checks in the capital in the last 24 hours, police said on Wednesday.

Two of the fines – for €8,000 and €4,000 — concerned two establishments where there was no person to check customers for a SafePass. The third was fined €500 after the manager was found working without a face mask.

During the 1,071 checks in the capital, three people were also fined for violating the measures.

The checks were part of 2,474 nationwide inspections carried out between 6am on Tuesday and 6am on Wednesday.

In Limassol, 225 checks were carried out during which two people were booked, 295 people were conducted in Famagusta where five people were fined and another person was booked in Paphos after 78 checks.

No violations were reported in Larnaca or Morphou after 486 and 105 checks respectively.

Traffic, marine and port police also carried out 211 and three checks each without any bookings.
