Seven caught driving under influence of drugs

Driving under the influence of substances affects driver’s skills and increases the risk of collision, police said on Thursday after seven people were caught driving while on drugs in Paphos and Famagusta the previous day.

Six drivers were found positive in a preliminary drug test in Paphos while the seventh driver was detected during checks carried out by Famagusta traffic police.

Furthermore, three drivers in the Paphos district were found to be driving their vehicles without insurance, driver’s licence and MOT.

Police reminded the public that substances such as drugs and alcohol have been proven to contribute to a reduction in the mental and psychological effort exerted while driving and to a reduction in the performance of the driver’s skills, thus increasing the risk of causing a road traffic collision.
