Turkish Cypriot media on Saturday reported that two men arrested in the north for smuggling illegal migrants were remanded for a further three days.

According to Kibris Postasi, the two suspects were arrested on March 22 after being caught trying to smuggle 20 Syrians, among them eight children, to the north via Turkey.

They were reportedly caught on a beach in Ayios Epiktitos in Kyrenia and arrested on charges of illegally transporting migrants to the north.

Police asked that they remain in custody for three more days to facilitate investigations.
