A 37-year-old man was arrested on Saturday after he was caught driving a stolen car under the influence of drugs in Larnaca.

Police said they spotted the suspect driving a car that had been reported stolen the previous day around 30 minutes after midnight on Saturday morning.

The driver allegedly ignored police’s signal to stop, driving recklessly and violating traffic signals before he finally stopped the car and attempted to flee on foot.

Officers caught up with the man and arrested him.

During a search in the stolen car, a metal cutting disc, a mobile phone, another car key and about €90 in cash were found for which the suspect failed to provide sufficient explanations as to their origin.

Police said the man tested positive to a preliminary drug test but refused to provide additional sample for a laboratory examination.
