One more art exhibition is added to the island’s cultural agenda, enriching Nicosia’s art scene. This upcoming showcase titled Looking Back to Move Forward is a group exhibition featuring 10 local artists who use various mediums. Opening on April 29, and lasting only for one day between 5pm and 10pm at the Palaia Agora of Pallouriotissa, the exhibition is inspired by current issues and all that has affected individuals around the world for the last two years.

“As William Shakespeare states, All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players,” say the exhibition organisers, Visual Space. “2020 marked the beginning of a new era. These past two years the world has entered a new normal, defined by the Covid-19 pandemic which took millions of lives worldwide, led to the largest economic recession since the Great Depression, created social disruption and consequently took a serious toll on people’s mental health.

“These past two years,” they add, “we have also witnessed other significant social issues emerging, where some artists compare past and present forcing the viewer to reflect. How do we move forward? This exhibition aims to address significant issues from the year 2020 onwards, looking back into these moments to help us create a better future together.”
