11-year-old caught with firecrackers in Limassol park

Police are investigating cases of illegal possession of explosives after firecrackers and fireworks were found in the possession of two men, aged 23 and 33.

A number of firecrackers were also found in the possession of an 11-year-old boy, police added in a statement on Wednesday.

Police were tipped off that young people were throwing firecrackers in a park in Limassol and went to the spot where they found 24 firecrackers in the possession of an 11-year-old boy.

His father was called to the scene, informed of what had happened and took his child, while the firecrackers were confiscated, police added.

Later, at around 7.20 pm and acting on a search warrant Limassol police searched the home of a man aged 23 during which they found 46 firecrackers and 18 cartridges for firearms. He was arrested as police investigations continue.

Moreover, police said they are investigating a case of possession of 10 flares by a 33-year-old man. The flares were found in the man’s car. He was detained, charged in writing, and released.
