The world needs to review humanity’s relationship with the planet because the climate crisis is looming as a death threat, Environment Commissioner Klelia Vassiliou in view of Earth Day marked around the world annually on April 22.

“Climate change demands from us to place our attention on our actions and on our responsibility against the protection and restoration of humanity to its basic principles and values,” she said.

The commissioner further stated that the climate crisis, as a death threat, measures our resilience and our ability for good, respect and compliance against the forces of nature.

This year, Earth Day coincides with Good Friday as commemorated in the Christian Orthodox tradition and foretells the coming dominance of light over darkness.

With that in mind, Vassiliou concludes that “this day provides us with the opportunity to meditate and measure our deeds and true stature against our relationship with nature.”
