Paphos police on Friday said they confiscated over 100 firecrackers in Pyla and Polis Chrysochous.

Some 80 firecrackers were found during a search in the car of a 19-year-old man who was found driving on Archiepiskopou Makariou III in Pyla on Thursday afternoon.

The teenager was arrested and was transferred to Oroklini police station for further investigation.

Meanwhile, following a tip-off, police also found 47 firecrackers inside an abandoned building in Polis Chrysochous.

In recent days, police have intensified searches for illegal explosives as Easter approaches when their use is traditionally higher.
