Sitar artist Reshma Shrivastava is coming to Paphos for a unique performance at the Attikon Amphitheatre on May 8. Reshma is set to headline an enchanting evening of traditional Indian classical music, alongside an opening performance of evening ragas from local musicians.

Happening under the auspices of the High Commission of India and presented by the Indian classical Music & Arts Cyprus, the evening is a rare occasion for live Indian music on the island. “We are fortunate to receive Reshma in Cyprus,” say the organisers, “on tour as part of her programme for peace in Greece, Turkey and Cyprus and the greater regions including Ukraine. Among other initiatives, Reshma will perform at the Parnassos Literary Society Concert Hall, Athens, prior to her arrival in Cyprus.

“Reshma Shrivastava is respected and renowned worldwide,” they add, “both as a performing artist and guru of Sitar. Born in Allahabad, India to a family of musicians, her father being Tabla maestro and author Professor Girish Chandra Srivastava.”

During her career, Reshma has received many distinguished awards, including the most prestigious Academy Award from the Uttar Pradesh, Sangeet Natak Academy in 2016. This May, the island is ready to welcome her in an ambient and inspirational setting, where Reshma will present an enchanting evening of traditional Indian classical music, alongside an opening act with Kyprianos Paraskeva on sitar, Lahiru dewarja on tabla, Maria Avraam flute, Stavros Savva on accordion and santoor and Socratis Efstathiou on tanpura.
