A 26-year-old third-country national is under arrest on suspicion of burglary, theft, assault, causing actual bodily harm, and residing illegally in the Republic, police said on Tuesday.

The theft had been reported by the owner of a house in Aradippou in December. According to statements made to the police the owner surprised a man in the yard of his house stealing his bicycle, worth €350. The owner attempted to stop the suspect, suffering abrasions to his hands in the process, but the suspect managed to escape.

Police conducted examinations at the scene and evidence collected led to the 26-year-old suspect, against whom an arrest warrant was issued. Examination also revealed that the 26-year-old had been a student in Cyprus but had interrupted his studies and from July 2021, has been residing illegally in the Republic.

The man had since been wanted and was located and taken into custody on Monday night pending further investigations.
