Man sought in stabbing case

Police are searching for 27-year-old Ahmad Rayed Al Zahri in connection with the attempted murder of another young man in Nicosia on Sunday afternoon.

Police on Sunday arrested a 36-year-old man as one of two men suspected of assaulting a 28-year-old with a knife, injuring him in the abdomen. The incident occurred at about 6:30pm.

Al Zahri, the Jordanian suspect being sought by police, is a resident of Cyprus. A court warrant has been issued for his arrest.

The victim allegedly told police that while he was on the street, two people approached him and after an altercation, one of them attacked him with a sharp object. Shortly afterwards, the two suspects fled.

Shortly after 10 pm Sunday night, a 36-year-old man, who is said to be one of the perpetrators, was arrested by members of the police, with a court warrant.
