Two men remanded for gun, drug possession

Two men, aged 27 and 23, were remanded in custody for seven days on Wednesday as police investigate a case of illegal possession of drugs with intent to supply, illegal possession and transportation of guns and ammunition and money laundering.

Larnaca police spokesman Harris Hadjiyiasemi said that the two suspects were in a vehicle that was stopped for checks at Livadia early on Tuesday morning.

In the car, police found 32 sachets containing 10 grams of cocaine and 14 cartridge shells. The 23-year-old admitted that he had bought the guns for his own protection and that he, the 27-year-old man and another friend – a woman, had used them for target practice at the Kalo Chorio firing range.

The 27-year-old said the guns were at the home of his friend – a woman aged 17. There police found the guns and 40 cartridges of 7.65mm. The two men were arrested and the underaged woman questioned and released.

The two appeared before Larnaca district court on Wednesday which remanded them in custody for seven days.
