A 56-year-old Larnaca man was on Friday jailed for two and a half years after he pleaded guilty to setting a woman’s Mercedes on fire, destroying the vehicle.

A fire service spokesman said that the incident occurred just before midnight on March 25, when the unit was called to put out the blaze as a parked car was on fire outside a 45-year-old Nicosia woman’s holiday home in Pervolia.

The car was destroyed, and fire service officers suspected malicious intent, with the woman suspecting a specific person.

Authorities obtained an arrest warrant for the 56-year-old who was apprehended on March 26.

The following day he was remanded for eight days, where he made a voluntary statement admitting his guilt.

On Friday, Larnaca district court sentenced him to two and a half years in prison.
