The Producer Price Index in Industry for the month of April 2022 reached 123.8 points (base 2015 = 100), recording an increase of 19.5 year-on-year, according to a report by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) released this week.

Moreover, year-on-year increases were recorded in all sectors.

Electricity supply increased by 43.6 per cent, water supply and material recovery by 27.2 per cent, processing by 13 per cent, while mines and quarries rose by 4.4 per cent.

Going by each manufacturing category, in April 2022, compared to the corresponding month of the previous year, increases were recorded in all economic activities, with the most significant rise being observed in the wood industry, with an increase of 37.2 per cent.

Elsewhere, there were increases in the production of basic metals and construction of metal products by 33.4 per cent, the manufacture of products from rubber and plastics by 18.8 per cent, as well as the production of other non-metallic mineral products by 12.2 per cent.

In addition, the manufacture of machinery and equipment, motor vehicles and other transport equipment saw an increase of 12.2 per cent.

What is more, the report noted that the index rose by 2.1 per cent month-on-month in April 2022.

During this period, the index remained stable in the field of electricity supply, while it recorded an increase in the sectors of processing by 2.8 per cent, water supply and material recovery by 0.7 per cent, as well as mines and quarries by 0.5 per cent.

Finally, between January and April 2022, the index rose by 17.3 per cent year-on-year.

 

Accommodation and catering services continued to record the highest growth rates in turnover in the first quarter of 2022, according to a report by the Cyprus Statistical Service (Cystat) released on Wednesday.

This is primarily a reflection of the tourism sector’s recovery as the adverse effects of the coronavirus outbreak continue to dissipate.

According to Cystat’s services turnover index, the accommodation and catering services sector rose by 91.1 per cent year-on-year in the first quarter of 2022.

The accommodation and catering services sector continued the positive trend seen in the fourth quarter of 2021 when it grew by 98.2 per cent year-on-year.

The information and communication services segment also recorded an increase, rising by 32.5 per cent year-on-year.

In addition, the administrative and support activities sector grew by 20.6 per cent year-on-year, while professional, scientific and technical activities rose by 6.8 per cent on annual basis.

 

The Cyprus Stock Exchange (CSE) ended Wednesday, June 1 with profits.

The main Cyprus Stock Market Index was at 71.39 points at 12:41 during the day, reflecting a rise of 1 per cent over the previous day of trading.

The FTSE / CySE 20 Index was at 42.84 points, which represents an increase of 0.97 per cent.

The total value of transactions came up to €266,079.

In terms of the sub-indexes, the main, alternative and investment firm indexes rose by 1.21 per cent, 0.24 per cent and 1.48 per cent respectively.

The hotel index remained stable from the previous day of trading.

The biggest investment interest was attracted by the Bank of Cyprus (+2.68 per cent), Vassiliko Cement Works (+0.75 per cent), Hellenic Bank (+1.2 per cent), Petrolina (-2.65 per cent), and Logicom (-1.55 per cent).
